Guest Speaker
The USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild is pleased to announce that Dr. Kroum N. Batchvarov, Associate Professor of Maritime Archeology at the University of Connecticut, will be the guest speaker at the 43rd Annual Northeast Ship Model Conference to be held on April 25th, 2026 at the Port “N” Starboard Ocean Front Banquet Center, Ocean Beach Park, New London, CT.
The topic of Dr. Batchvarov’s presentation will be the construction of the 17th century Swedish naval vessel Vasa. Dr. Batchvarov spent more than two years on board the Vasa documenting its construction. A major component of that project was to devise and implement a non-destructive recording methodology for the framing of a 98% intact wooden ship that would permit structural and design analysis.
Dr. Batchvarov received his PhD in Nautical Archeology at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas in 2009.
